Frequently Asked Questions:

What should I expect on the first visit?

On your first visit you will fill out a patient history and past medical history form.  It gives the doctor a personal history (name, address, phone, etc.) as well as your past medical history and current complaints.  You will also fill out a HIPPA form. It remains in the your file to show that Corona Regional Chiropractic informed you that we keep your information private. If you are a Medicare patient an "Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN) needs to be signed.  It explains exactly what Medicare does and does not pay for.  If you are a Personal Injury patient (motor vehicle accident) additional forms will be completed.
When the paper work is complete the doctor will review the information that you gave him.  This information is very helpful for the doctor to formulate a working diagnosis.  Additionally, an orthopedic examination is performed to establish a clear understanding of your condition and help confirm the diagnosis.
      Do you routinely take X-rays?

After reviewing the findings on the past history, the current signs and symptoms and the results of the orthopedic examination, the doctor may request that we take X-rays to gather additional information that would be helpful in ruling out pathology and other conditions that have similar signs and symptoms. X-ray is also very useful with documenting injury and with mapping biomechanical faults.

Will you treat me on the first visit?

Before the doctor begins treatment, they need to evaluate all the findings gathered and formulate a working diagnosis and treatment plan.  In many cases the doctor can do this on the first visit; however if X-rays are taken, they need to be developed and analyzed before care begins.  Even in this scenario some care can be delivered including muscle and fascial pain management, cold laser and cryotherapy and at home instructions until care can be started (usually by the next day).
Why does my pain keep coming back?

Most people come in because they hurt. The initial phase of chiropractic care addresses your pain.  Often when the pain is gone the patient discontinues care because they got results that were satisfactory.  This is called acute care or "patch care".  Chiropractic, however does offer more.  When the pain is gone reconstructive care can begin.  This is where you become more active in your care and as the doctor continue to adjust the spine, traction techniques will be applied similar to orthodontia for the teeth and in office and home exercises all in the "mirror image" of your posture with the goal of restoring the proper mechanics of the spine.  The patient is very much involved in their care at this point. The benefit to this form of care is usually improved overall function. With improved biomechanics you will have Your Best Health Now!
       Is chiropractic dangerous?
For 113 years chiropractic has delivered safe effective care. Chiropractic is the second largest health care profession in America. Its philosophy is to treat the whole body without drugs or surgery by opening the body's potential to heal itself through spinal adjustments. Despite what MDs and newspaper articles say, chiropractic is considered very safe.  Chiropractors are well trained to diagnose and treat musculo-skelatel conditions.  It takes 4 years of pre-med education and 4 years of chiropractic college to earn a doctor of chiropractic degree.  The chiropractor then has to pass 4 board exams before they can practice. Chiropractic is regulated by the State Board of Chiropractic and they require that we take relicencing education yearly. So be confident that you are in good hands of a professional.
